Whoever said nothing good can come from a vacuum, well besides clean floors, was wrong. I recently got inspired by Chiara of The Blonde Salad and her cute Valentino flip flops.
The cost: $295.00
One of Each Blog DIY cost: PRICELESS…or about $20.00 (maybe less if you have some black flip flops laying around)
What you’ll need:
* Vacuum Belts – 4 total (Wal-Mart)
* Black Duct Tape
* Silver Square Brads (Michaels / Craft Store)
* Nail Polish Remover
* Q-Tips
* X-Acto Knife
* Super Glue for Rubber
* Black Flip Flops
Step 1:
Open up your vacuum belts. They should come 2 per package, and you will need a total of 4 belts. I used Hoover Style 190. Take a Q-Tip dipped in nail polish remover, and remove any white text that is on the belt.
Step 2:
Cut belts in half. You will need 2 strips measuring 8 1/2”, and 2 strips measuring 7 1/2”. (Keep extra scraps for later)
Step 3:
With the strips laying horizontally, slice holes vertically every inch for brads to fit in, leaving a spot open in the middle. The small strips should have 4 brads, while the longer strips should have 6.
Step 4:
Insert silver brads into cut slices. Then flip the belt strip over, and pull the legs of the brads open, to lay flush with the belt.
Step 5:
Using a small piece of duct tape, tape belts into small bows. They should look the the infinity symbol or a figure 8.
Step 6:
Using another thin strip of duct tape, tape the small and large “bow” together for each flip flop. I did mine a little bit diagonal, instead on directly on top of one another, to be able to see both bows.
Step 7:
Repeat Steps 3 & 4, with the flip flops. Space slices evenly. I managed to fit 8 brads on each flip flop.
Step 7:
Place a drip of glue on the flip flop where you are going to place the bow. Then with a long piece of thin duct tape, wrap bow in place.
Step 8:
With the left over scraps of the vacuum belt, make 2, 2 1/4” strips. (Also make sure this fits over the duct tape that is holding the bow to the flip flop.)
Step 9:
Add one brad to center of strip, like in previous steps.
Step 10:
Add glue to small strip and place over bow. Hold in place until glue drys. (approx. 1 min)
Step 11:
Put on your fancy new flip flops and head out on the town. You’re done! TA-DA!
